The British were slow to strike back at first. Eventually two columns left Meerut and Shimla to fight the revolting sepoys.The two forces met near Karnal, defeated the sepoys at Badli-ki-Sarai and drove them back to Delhi. The British forces consisted of two Gorkha units loaned by the King of Nepal.
