Dehradun: Uttarakhand government today continued its alerts, following the weather department's forecast of heavy rains in many areas of the state, including the routes of the Chardham Yatra.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has asked all district authorities to remain vigilant to prevent loss of life or property due to heavy downpour, an official release said.

According to the Met department here, heavy rainfall is taking place since last night with small intervals in parts of the state.

Places like Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pauri Gharwal and Nainital are witnessing heavy downpour since last night, it said.

While reviewing the preparedness of districts in the wake of heavy rains, Rawat asked the officials to divide districts in zones and sectors and deploy officers there.

He said besides paying special attention to Chardham Yatra routes, all districts should stay vigilant.

The pilgrims should not move around in night and in case roads are obstructed, officers should be in touch with them, Rawat noted.

The Chief Minister ordered Kumaun divisional commissioner to go to Bageshwar as the District Magistrate there is on medical leave and Chamoli District Magistrate to camp at Joshimath.

He asked Pithoragarh District Magistrate to monitor Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and Haridhwar, Uddham Singh Nagar magistrates to keep an eye on the condition of river.

The Met department has predicted heavy downpour at several places in the state for the next three days.

It has warned that districts like Pauri Gharwal, Almoda, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar are expected to receive 160 mm of rainfall.
