Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon on Monday in Ahmedabad showered praise on Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi by saying that she was his fan and country needed more leaders like him.

Tandon's comment come just a few days after, bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan had to face criticism from ruling Congress and left parties for becoming brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism.

"I am a big fan of Modiji," Tandon said during launch of the 8th chapter of Women's wing of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) known as FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) here where Gujarat chief minister was chief guest.

"We need more leaders like you to run this country," she said concluding her address.

Recently, Bachchan had to face severe criticism from the Congress and the Left parties over his association with Gujarat by becoming the brand ambassador for the state.

 The CPI-M led LDF Kerala government had backed out from appointing Bachchan as brand ambassador of Kerala Tourism following the actor's association with led Gujarat government and him being brand ambassador for Gujarat Tourism.

During his address at the function held here today, Modi listed various initiatives taken by his government for women empowerment.

 Modi began with the steps taken by his government in the field of education which included yearly school enrolment drives in areas to ensure 100 per cent enrolment of children into schools.

He also talked about how building toilets for girls in the schools brought down the female dropout rate in the state from nearly 50 per cent to almost two per cent.

The chief minister also highlighted his government's programmes to curb maternal mortality, infant mortality and malnutrition among young children.

 He said that his government was the first to provide fortified milk, wheat flour and oil to the poor families to improve their health status.

Modi also advised the FLO to contribute to improve nutrition among women in the state.

Modi claimed that because of state government's efforts the sex ratio in Gujarat, which was 702 female to every 1000 make in 2001 census, has improved to nearly 896 female to 1000 male at present.

The 8th chapter of FICCI's Ladies Organisation (FLO) would be led by Sonal Ambani who had been appointed as the chairperson. FLO aims to promote entrepreneurship and professional excellence among women. PTI
