Jodhpur, Oct 18: In a recent incident coming from Jodhpur an eye from a body lying in the morgue of MG Hospital went missing on Sunday, forcing the hospital administration to order an inquiry into the matter.
The postmortem report hints that it could be due to an animal bite, reports DNA.
On Saturday, one Prakash (29), a resident of Pratap Nagar in Jodhpur, had died in an accident. His body was kept in the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Jodhpur, for postmortem.
Next day when the family members saw the body, they found the left eye of the deceased missing.
The angered relatives created a ruckus at the hospital. They had alleged that the eye was either sold or eaten up by rats. The hospital administration had to set up a board for post-mortem. It also ordered for a histopathological report in the matter.
The postmortem report hinted at an animal or rat bite on the eye as some inside part of the eye was found missing, but the administration is still not confirming anything.
Dr PC Vyas, medical superintendent of MG Hospital, told DNA, “The autopsy report says that some part of the eye like cornea and lens were missing but the conjunctiva was there. On this basis, we cannot reach on any conclusion as what actually had happened. It could be due to an animal bite. The tissues of the eye have been sent to the laboratory for further pathological tests.”
He added, “The pathological report will come in a week's time and only then, we will be able to confirm anything.” However, the second report, histopathological one which has been prepared by general surgeon Dr Shankar Saxena is expected to be submitted by Thursday. It could shed some more light on the matter.
