The government on Wednesday decided to withhold full pension on "permanent basis" of tainted former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore serving an 18-month jail term for molesting a minor girl Ruchika Girhotra.
"Pension of Rathore, a retired IPS officer of the 1965 batch, has been withheld in full on permanent basis," a Home Ministry spokesman said here today.
The decision to withhold the pension was taken in view of Rathore's conviction by Chief Judicial Magistrate Chandigarh on December 21 last year in the Ruchika molestation case, he said.
Ruchika, a budding tennis player, had committed suicide three years after being molested by Rathore on August 12, 1990.
A session's court in Chandigarh had on May 25 enhanced Rathore's jail term from six to 18 months following public anger over the lighter sentence awarded to him earlier.
In January this year, the government had stripped Rathore of his police medals. Rathore was awarded the police medal for meritorious service in 1985. PTI
