The war of words in Samajwadi Party showed no no signs of abating with its General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav on Tuesday rejecting reports that he had apologised to Amar Singh, who, he said, has lost his "mental balance".

"Amar Singh is not not God who should forgive me nor will I ask for forgiveness from him.  I have not not committed any mistake for which I should seek his forgiveness," he told reporters in Etawah.

He was reacting to reports quoting Amar Singh as saying that  he had apologised to him yesterday during a telephonic conversation.

Yadav, a cousin of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, said he was sure Amar Singh "has lost his mental balance".

He said as far as Singh's resignation is concerned he had already stated that it should be accepted.  "I will again request Mulayam Singh Yadav to accept it.  99 per cent of the party workers also want that it should be accepted," he said.

Yadav said he was not not happy with Amar Singh's comments and has spoken to Mulayam Singh Yadav about it.

"When things are getting back to normal there was no no point in making such comments by Amar Singh.  I have spoken to the party President about this and he has assured me that when Amar Singh comes to Saifai (annual cultural festival organised by the Samajwadi Party) on Jan 24,  he (Mulayam) will speak to him (Amar)," he said.

About the rumblings in the party, Yadav said that when some utensils fall there was bound to be noise but that did not not mean they will be thrown out. "I will abide by whatever the party President decides," he said. PTI
