New Delhi: Actor turned politician Rakhi Sawant yesterday joined the Republican Party of India (A) and was appointed as the working president of the party's women's wing by the party chief Ramdas Athawale.
After being appointed as the President of the party's women's wing, Rakhi expressed her deires to become the chief minister of the state some day.
Asked on a question whether she would contest the forthcoming assembly elections, Rakhi said, "I am ready, but my party chief will decide."
Rakhi sawant also said, "Agar chai bechnewale Modiji PM ban sakte hai toh mai CM kyu nahi ban sakti?" ( If a tea seller can become the PM then why can't I become the CM?).
Party chief Ramdas Athawale said, "Sawant will go ahead of Mayawati as she is more powerful".
Actor Rakhi Sawant had contested the recent Lok Sabha electionsin April and secured nearly 2,000 votes.
