Jaipur: The Food Security Scheme estimated to benefit around 4.64 crore people will be launched in Rajasthan on October 2, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said yesterday.

After three months of survey across the state, the government has selected around 90 lakh families (about 4.64 crore people) as beneficiary under the scheme, Gehlot told a press conference here.

On October 2, there would be a symbolic launch of the scheme at every panchayat samiti and foodgrains would be distributed from 20th to the last day of every month, he said.

About 38.83 lakh beneficiaries of BPL, state BPL and Antyodaya Anna Yojana would, however, continue to get 35 kg of wheat at Re one per kg every month, Gehlot said.

Whereas over 50 lakh new beneficiaries under the Food Security Scheme would get wheat at Rs two per kg, rice at Rs three per kg and Bajra at Re one per kg, he said.

Besides existing ones, about 2,000 new ration shops would be opened to distribute foodgrains under the scheme, the Chief Minister said.

Gehlot claimed that Rajasthan would be the first state to implement the scheme after conducting extensive survey and revising beneficiary list, adding Haryana, Delhi and Uttarakhand had implemented it without any such exercise.
