Chennai, Sep 23 : DMK supremo M Karunanidhi has said that his party leader A Raja consulted both the Prime Minister and then Finance Minister P Chidambaram while alloting 2G spectrum.

"Both the Prime Minister and Chidambaram  were consulted every time their advice was needed", said Karunanidhi. On Thursday evening, Karunanidhi sought  to stay off the controversy over a note by the Finance Ministry on the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram's suggested role in 2G spectrum auctioning by saying it  was upto the
Home Minister  (Chidambaram) to decide on quitting if found guilty.

"I don't have any details and therefore I don't want to comment.... (but) if he was found guilty it is upto him to decide on resigning," Karunanidhi said as he asserted that the alliance with Congress continued at Centre.

The 88-year-old DMK chief, who insisted he would not speak in detail on this matter as he did not have any detail (aboutthe letter), recalled that his party colleague and former Telecom Minister A Raja had maintained that the Prime Minister and the then Finance Minister Chidambaram were kept in the know over 2G policy making and pricing.

In a document submitted before the Supreme Court yesterday, the Finance Ministry had said the Telecom Ministrycould have gone in for auction of 2G spectrum licenses had then Finance Minister P Chidambaram insisted on this, prompting DMK sources to hold that Raja's stand on price regime was vindicated.

To a question, Karunanidhi said his party's alliance with Congress continued even as DMK has announced facing the next month's Tiruchirappally (west) and local body polls alone.

However, there would be 'local adjustments' with ally Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and "this applies to Congress also," based on local conditions and opportunities,he said without elaborating. PTI
