Newly-elected Congress MP from Firozabad Raj Babbar on Tuesday met AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who asked him to work towards party's 'Mission 2012' when Uttar Pradesh goes to assembly polls.
Babbar was accompanied by AICC General Secretary in charge of UP Digvijay Singh, state party chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, CLP leader Pramod Tiwari and the lone Congress candidate who won in the just-held assembly bye-elections Shyam Kishore Shukla.
Shukla won from Lucknow (West) seat which was vacated by BJP leader Lalji Tandon after he won the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow.
"Rahulji told us that we have to take forward 'Mission 2012' in UP," Babbar told reporters after meeting Gandhi.
Singh said Gandhi was "very happy" with the party's victory in Firozabad. "We told him that his campaigning turned the tables for the party," he said.
Meanwhile, Congress has decided to send Babbar to Jharkhand to campaign for Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections there.
"I am going there. Development is the main issue and we have to focus on it appropriately," Babbar said, when asked about the party's decision to send him to the state. PTI
