Raipur, Mar 28: The local power distribution company has warned Raipur Municipal Corporation to regularize its 427 illegal water pumps by March 31, failing which FIRs will be lodged against the municipal body.
The Chief Vigilance Officer of the power company said, during summer, because of low water table, the water pumps of the corporation are unable to supply water. As a result, the corporation had been boring wells and supplying water through pumps drawing electricity from the power cables, causing huge loss to the power company.
The CVO said, the corporation regularized 385 such pumps, but 427 pumps are still drawing power illegally. On an average basis Rs 50,000 fine is levied for each such water pump, considering the annual consumption and charging two and a half time tariff.
The commercial loss to the power company is said to be Rs 2.14 crore, he added.
