Raina, Raj Babbar apply for Rs 50k monthly pension under UP's Yash Bharati Samman

Lucknow: Cricketer Suresh Raina, actor turned politician Raj Babbar, his wife Nadira, classical vocalist Girija Devi and Chhannulal Mishra are among the 100 awardees who have applied for the Yash Bharati Samman offered by UP government, according to a leading daily.

The government had earlier announced the name of 141 recepients and sought their application by january 31.

The state government had sent out a copy of the notification on the pension to 141 recipients of Yash Bharti. By January 31, the last day to apply for the pension, it received 100 applications, the report says.

The recipient of this honour receives a monthly pension of Rs. 50,000 by the state government.

Mega star Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya and son Abhishek, who were also eligible for the pension, had earlier politely turned down the offer, and communicated the same to the state government, in writing.

Yash Bharti award is given to eminent persons belonging to the state in the fields of art, culture, sports, literature, medicine, journalism and social service. It is among the highest paying pension schemes in the state. Most schemes for artists in the state offers paltry allowance as pensions.

Others well known names queuing up for the pension are poet Gopal Das Neeraj, cricketer Mohammed Kaif, and actor Jimmy Shergill.
