Lucknow, Mar 7: The Uttar Pradesh government had demanded 50 trains to clear the massive rush during the Maha Kumbh but got only 12 before the stampede on the Allahabad junction, in which 36 persons lost their lives, state minister Azam Khan said on wednesday.
Giving a reply on the debate on the stampede in the Assembly, state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan said that it was an unfortunate incident and it was not right to politicise it.
Claiming that massive preparations were made for the Maha Kumbh which have been hailed the world over, Khan said that had there been adequate space for movement around the railway station, the accident could have been averted.
Stressing that judicial probe would fix responsibility, Azam said that barring the tragic incident the Maha Kumbh passed off peacefully.
Asking the opposition members not to level any charge which would undermine the huge preparations, the minister said even a Harward university team was studying as to how such a massive event could be organised.
