Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to reply by February 15 to breach of privilege notices regarding his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Lok Sabha MP made remarks against the Prime Minister during his Parliament speech on Tuesday.
Rahul Gandhi was served breach of privilege notices after he alleged that the Prime Minister had connections with billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey have served notices to the Congress MP.
During his speech, Rahul while hitting out at the Centre had repeatedly linked PM Modi and businessman Gautam Adani.
Gandhi linked Modi-Adani's relationship after Hindenburg report on industrialist's business empire.
According to Lok Sabha secretariat sources, the notices seek a response from the Congress leader for making "misleading, derogatory, unparliamentary, and incriminatory statements" during a discussion on the President's address in Lok Sabha on February 7.
A day after Rahul's speech, PM Modi had also addressed Lok Sabha on motion of thanks to the President's address. In his speech, the Prime Minister slammed UPA-led era saying that the period 2004-2014 will be known as a lost-decade for the country in terms of opportunities that could have taken India forward.
However, Rahul Gandhi didn't agree with the Prime Minister and accused him of protecting the businessman.
"I am not satisfied, but it reveals the truth. There was no talk of an inquiry. If he is not a friend, then he should have agreed to an inquiry. There was no probe into shell companies in defence sector and benami money is changing hands, but the prime minister did not say anything on that. It is clear that the prime minister is protecting him," Gandhi told reporters.
"He (PM) is surely trying to protect him (Adani) and I understand this and there are reasons for it," he added.
