New Delhi:  CRPF Special Director General R C Tayal was today named as the acting chief of the country's largest paramilitary force till a successor to incumbent Dilip Trivedi is appointed.

The 1980-batch IPS officer has been asked to "look after" the top post of the force as Trivedi is set to retire on November 30.

"Consequent to the retirement on superannuation of Dilip Trivedi, IPS (UP:78) Director General CRPF on November 30, 2014, the competent authority in the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved that the charge of Director General CRPF will be looked after by the next senior most officer i.E., R C Tayal, IPS (AM:80) Special DG CRPF till the appointment and joining of successor," a statement from the Home Ministry said.

Sources said the appointment of the new CRPF boss is expected to be made within the next few days after the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approves the name of Trivedi's successor.

The CRPF, with over 3 lakh personnel in its ranks, is the mainstay for anti-Naxal operations in the country besides being deployed extensively in its hinterlands for rendering various internal security tasks including counter-insurgency and law and order duties.
