Mumbai-After spending more than 19 months in solitary confinement,Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Qasab, has developed signs of a nervous breakdown, reports Mumbai Mirror.

He has been under the treatment of a psychiatrist from JJ Hospital since last week.

According to a senior official at Arthur Road Jail,Qasab was displaying behavioural signs which indicated a disturbed mental balance. He had banged his head against the wall of his cell on two occasions recently, and had even bit his right forearm once, he said.

A medical source from the jail said Qasab has not been eating his meals regularly and often dumps them.He said, We decided to call a psychiatrist from JJ Hospital to treat him. Dr Shubhangi Parkar, head of psychiatry department, KEM Hospital, said that a person who has spent such a long period in solitary confinement can go into a state of nervous breakdown. She said,The reason for this is that he suffers from sensory deprivation, which means he doesnt have normal interaction with the society.

Dr Parkar added,We are willing to send a person to counsel him if we get a formal communication from the administration.

A medical source said that they have been checking Qasabs health on a daily basis. He said,He is still on medication for acidity and hiatus hernia and is being given a bland diet.
