Badal seeks direction from Centre to help J&K flood victims

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today sought directions from the Centre to offer help and cooperation to the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an official release, the Punjab government, having failed to contact the authorities in valley due to disruption in telecom services, asked the Centre to inform it about the nodal authorities in rescue and relief.  

In separate letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the Chief Minister asked the Union Government to inform the Punjab Government about the nodal authorities to be contacted in this regard.

While the assessment of damage to individual property and vital infrastructure in the state would take some time, the Punjab Government was keen to render immediate assistance to the Jammu and Kashmir government in handling this grave situation by all means in terms of food article supplies, medicines, doctors, blankets, clothes or anything else the Government needed, Badal wrote in the letters.  

Badal said, “My heart goes out for the people of J&K who have suffered this disaster. The people of Punjab and my government share the grief with the people of J&K and express complete solidarity with them in this hour of crisis.”
