Jind: The 15-day-long hunger strike by the farmers here was called off after the assurance by district administration and Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha of providing drought relief within 10 days.
The sub-divisional magistrate assured the release of amount for sugarcane farming, besides promising to put an end on sale of medicines along with fertilisers. He also said that a proposal for linking farming with MNREGA has been sent to the Haryana chief minister.
Addressing the protesters, state deputy president Dakshya Shyokhand said that if the state continues with the “anti-farmer” policy, an state-level agitation will be launched in 20 days.
