Mumbai: Mumbai Police today ordered an inquiry into major security lapse during the swearing-in of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside Wankhede Stadium on October 31.

A man named Anil Mishra had allegedly breached the security of the Prime Minister and shared the dais where the latter was present with other dignitaries during the swearing-in ceremony of Fadnavis.

“Taking a serious note of the incident, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

“Deputy Police Commissioner Ravindra Shisve is conducting an inquiry to figure out how Anil Mishra sneaked into the highly secured zone during the swearing-in ceremony on October 31,” Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Dhananjay Kamalakar said.

“The DCP has begun the inquiry. He has been asked to submit the inquiry report at the earliest,” he added.  Police said the report will also establish the identity of the policemen responsible for the security lapse.

However, DCP Shisve, under whose jurisdiction the sprawling ground falls, was unavailable for comment.  About 2,500 policemen, including several DCPs and Additional Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash, were deployed at the ground for security purpose.

The man had also clicked pictures with those present, including Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and uploaded them on social media.  He has been arrested and remanded in police custody till November 11.
