In the midst of her election campaign and trips to Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi is doing her post graduation in Buddhism, says her businessman husband, Robert Vadra.
"She is not into brands. So my gifts to her are things like books and music," 40-year-old Vadra was quoted as saying in an interview to 'People' magazine.
Going down memory lane, Vadra said he had met Priyanka when they were students at the British School in Delhi.
"I thought she was interested in me," he said of Priyanka who is three years younger to him.
Their friendship grew. "We would talk a lot and we got closer. But I did not want anyone to know because people would not understand or accept it and somehow they would give it different connotations," he said.
When they decided to marry, there was no proposal on bended knees, he said adding, "We just talked about it and then our familites met and it was all okay".
Vadra said he liked Priyanka for her simplicity. Vadra said he was clear from day one that no one should take advantage of his position. "I had new responsibilities (to Priyanka's family). I was very particular about keeping boundaries sacrosanct".
"Our boundaries are very clear. I go to Parliament when my mother-in-law (Congress president Sonia Gandhi) or Rahul make an important speech. But I don't tell them who should be in the Cabinet just like they don't tell me who to employ in my business," he said.
While enjoying parenthood, Vadra says it is Priyanka who is hands-on with their children 9-year-old Raihan and Miraya, 7. "I work to pay the family bills...and I crib sometimes when the bills are too high". PTI
