NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will receive Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, on March 27.
Departing from the protocol, President Pranab Mukherjee will visit Vajpayee's residence on March 27 to confer upon him Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country.
The Union government announced the prestigious award for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malaviya in December 2014.

43 people have been honoured with the Bharat Ratna since its inception, including scientist CV Raman, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, singer Lata Mangeshkar and politician C Rajagopalachari.
Earlier, March 16 was finalised as date for conferring the honour but it was postponed to March 27 as home minister Rajnath Singh had to visit Japan from March 14.
