New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee today passed away at Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in Delhi. She was 74.
"It is informed with deep sorrow that First Lady Suvra Mukherjee passed away this morning (August 18, 2015). She left for her heavenly abode at 10.51 am," said a statement.
She was admitted to hospital on August 7 following prolonged illness. She was suffering from respiratory problem. She was also a heart patient.
Her situation was critical from last few days and was kept in intensive care unit.
Suvra was born and raised in Narail, Bangladesh. She immigrated to Kolkata while she was 10 and married Pranab Mukherjee in 1957.
The couple have two sons and a daughter.
