New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee's book titled ‘The Dramatic Decade: The Indira Gandhi Years' will be released today.
The book tells the story of the 1970s, which saw emergency being imposed and the beginning of coalition politics in the country.
Rupa Publications, publisher of Mukherjee's book, said that ‘drawing from personal diary extracts, conversations with key players of the 1970s, and vital secondary literature, Pranab Mukherjee presents an exceptional portrait of a complex nation'.
The book focuses on one of the most fascinating periods in the life of this nation. This was when India found itself engaging with the true meaning of democracy. The nation displayed its commitment to liberty by extending full support to East Pakistan's struggle for independence, it added.
The Dramatic Decade is the first of a three-part volume; the second one will be on the years between 1981–88 and the third volume will be from 1988 to 2012.
