New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee today condoled the death of well known industrialist Russi Mody and said his entrepreneurial abilities made Tata Steel a benchmark for the rest of Indian industry.
“An iconic figure and an eminent industrialist, Mody was known for his vision, hard-work, determination and immense contribution to the Indian steel industry,” the President said in a condolence message.
Mody's entrepreneurial abilities resulted in Tata Steel becoming a benchmark for the rest of Indian industry, he said. Mody was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 1989 for his exemplary contribution to Indian industry, the President said.
“In the passing away of Mody, the nation has lost a stalwart whose human touch endeared him to all,” said Mukherjee.
Russi Modi, former Tata Iron and Steel Co (Tisco) chairman, who was known for his flamboyance, died at his home on May 16 The 96-year old who was the chairman of Tisco from 1984 to March 1993, died at his Alipore home in South Kolkata.
