Udhagamandalam: Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh today presented President's Colours to 20 Madras Battalion and 21 Madras Battalion of Madras Regiment at nearby Wellington Military Station.
The honour was bestowed upon these battalions- 20 based at Jamnagar and 21 at Kargil—in recognition of their dedicated and meritorious service rendered to the nation.
In his address, the Army Chief gave details about the functioning of the Indian Army and exhorted the soldiers to keep high the reputation of the nation and the Army.
He also released a special day cover on the occasion.
The colour presentation parade was held at the Shriganesh Barracks and was commanded by Brigadier S Suresh Kumar, Commandant, Madras Regiment Centre.
Considering its services to the nation, the regiment, founded in 1758, has been bestowed numerous awards like 45 Battle honours, 14 Treatre Honours, Nine COAS Unit Citations, 25 GOC in C unit appreciation and two UN Force Commanders Unit citations.
