New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee will attend a convocation of Jammu University, being held after a gap of 14 years, during his two day visit to Jammu beginning from Monday.
During his stay in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the President will pay obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on Tuesday where he will also inaugurate ‘Shridhar Elevator', a lift meant to carry mainly old and needy people from main track straight to Bhawan near the shrine.
This elevator will save on the final 127 steps to reach the shrine. This facility will be open for general public from Wednesday.
The President will be taken in a battery car after ‘Darshan' at the shrine to newly constructed ‘Panchi Helipad' near the Bhawan before his departure for Delhi on Tuesday.
The President will be the chief guest at the 14th convocation of the Jammu univesrsity on Monday which is being held after a gap of seven years. The last convication was held on July 15, 2007 which was attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Giving details about the convication, Vice Chancellor of the University M P S Ishar said in Jammu that in total 67 candidates who completed their Doctorate Degree in the year 2013 in seven faculties shall be awarded Ph.D degrees and 68 candidates shall be awarded with University Gold Medal and cash awards.
The University is also organizing a Special Convocation on September 16, in which the Ph.D Degrees and the Gold Medals shall be awarded to candidates from Session 2006 to 2012.
State Governor N N Vohra, Chancellor of the University, shall preside over the convocation where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also Pro-Chancellor of the University, will be the Guest of Honour.
