Mumbai: In a major pre-election sop, the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra on Sunday approved a proposal to regularise all slums made till 2000, benefitting more than five lakh slumdwellers.
The Cabinet meeting headed by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan took up this proposal, after NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Congress minister Arif Naseem pressed for regularisation.
The cabinet soon approved the proposal after a brief discussion.
The matter will be placed before the state assembly on Monday.
