Mumbai : After Gautam Vora, boyfriend of model Viveka Babajee who allegedly committed suicide at her suburban Bandra residence, her former boyfriend Karthik Jobanputtra is likely to seek anticipatory bail.
Karthik, who was in a relationship with Viveka for a brief period between 2008 and mid 2009, fears he would be arrested on charges of abetting Viveka's suicide and is likely to approach the sessions court seeking anticipatory bail.
The sessions court had on Tuesday granted relief to Viveka's current boyfriend Gautam, stock analyst, by directing the suburban Khar police to not arrest Gataum without giving 72-hour prior notice.
Gautam had on Monday approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
Viveka (37) had on June 25 committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her residence in Continental Towers at suburban Bandra.
"Karthik has not had any contact with Viveka since last seven to eight months. Just because he was in a relation with her in the past, police cannot question him," Karthik's lawyer Laxman Kanal told PTI.
"There were so many persons who knew Viveka personally. Will the police question all of them. There is no direct or indirect link of Viveka and Karthik in the recent past," he said.
According to the police, Viveka and Karthik had floated an event management company when they were together but later differences cropped up between the two. PTI
After grilling stock analysist Gautam Vora for over six hours, police probing the death of fashion model Viveka Babajee are preparing to question ten more persons, including her former boyfriend who is a businessman.
"We have prepared a list of 10 persons whom we would question in near future and record their statement. Businessman Kartik Jobanputra, her ex-boyfriend, will be among those who would be called in for questioning," said a police official probing the model's death case.
The official said they were yet to record the statements of Viveka's family members as they were still in the process of completing final rites. "The family is not in the city," the official added.
37-year-old Viveka, former Miss Mauritius, was found hanging from the ceiling at her Continental Towers flat in suburban Bandra on June 25.
According to police, Viveka and Jobanputra were in a relationship till mid-2009. Kartik and Viveka had floated an event management company which was doing well till differences cropped up between the couple.
"Viveka and Kartik parted ways professionally during December last year," the official added.
A local court had yesterday restrained the police from arresting Viveka's 'boyfriend' Gautam on the charge of abetment to suicide without giving him a 72-hour prior notice.
Gautam was questioned on two occasions, but, according to police, the answers given by him were "not satisfactory and convincing".
A day before her suicide, Viveka had consumed a lot of alcohol, continuously smoked and also seemed deeply disturbed over personal and financial problems, police had said quoting Gautam. PTI
