New Delhi, Apr 1: A 24-year-old woman from West Bengal, who was allegedly being forced into prostitution and confined in one of the brothels for past one month here, has been rescued, police said today.

Namrata (name changed), a resident of village Nimpith of 24 Pargana South district, was rescued from Kotha No 55 at the notorious G B road yesterday after police got information from Subir of NGO Shakti Vahini that a girl missing from West Bengal was confined in a brothel, a senior police official said.

She was confined there for last one month.

During interrogation, she said, she was married and her husband was a labourer while she worked as domestic help.

“She met a man named Bhappi who lured her to Delhi for better job prospects. But here, she was sold to one of the brothel owners,” said D C Srivastva, ACP Central District.

When she didn't reach home, her husband lodged a missing report with West Bengal Police. In the meantime, the victim somehow managed to contact the NGO and on their information, she has been rescued, he said.

The girl had been medically examined and sent to short stay home. The West Bengal Police had been informed, he added.
