New Delhi: A Christian school was allegedly vandalised by a group of unidentified persons in South Delhi's Vasant Vihar area in the wee hours today, police said.

Police said the office of the school principal was vandalised and some CCTVs were damaged.

The incident took place at Holy Child Auxilium School following which the school was shut and students were asked to go back to their homes.

Delhi Police Commissioner, BS Bassi, however said that it is a matter of theft.

“This is not a matter of desecration, it is a case of theft,” he said.

A senior police said that they are investigating the case and also scanning the footage of CCTVs installed in the school premises.

After meeting PM Modi, Delhi Police Commissioner said that he apprised the Prime Minister of the situation regarding the attack on a Christian school in Delhi's Vasant Vihar area.

“I apprised the Prime Minister of the situation regarding the attack on a school in Delhi.

Bassi said that the office of the school principal was vandalised and some CCTVs were damaged.

He added that this is not a matter of desecration and it appears to be a case of theft.

“Rs 8,000 was stolen from the principal's office, money has also been stolen from the donation box in the school,” Bassi said.

Modi, according to Bassi, directed him to come down hard on those involved in the incident.

Education Minister Smriti Irani, who studied in this school, has requested Home Minister Rajnath Singh to look into the incident. She also visited the school.

He also said that Modi expressed deep concern over the recent attacks on Churches in the capital.

“The Prime Minister expressed his deep concern over the recent attacks on churches in Delhi,” Bassi said.

Meanwhile, Modi also spoke over telephone to Union Home Secretary LC Goyal and asked him to pay special attention to the rising incidents of crime, and vandalism, and to work towards ensuring the safety and security of women in the Capital.

Bassi also said that SIT is investigating the fire break-out incident in a church in Delhi.

On December 1 last year, a major fire broke out in a church in Dilshad Garden. Police have registered a case under IPC Section 436 (arson) following allegations by parish members that the fire was not accidental.

Christians are the minority in Delhi, which has a population of 17 million. They represent just 2 percent of India's population of 1.2 billion.
