Gangtok, Sept 29: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today made an aerial survey of north Sikkim, which bore the brunt of the September 18 earthquake, and met the victims of the calamity in a hospital.


Singh took an Army helicopter from Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal and surveyed some of the worst-affected areas like Lachung, Lachen, Chungthang and Dzongu in Sikkim.  He then met victims of the 6.8 magnitude quake admitted to the STNM Hospital. Around 200 persons are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Hospital sources said that 400 injured persons have been discharged after treatment. Over 90 people were killed in the quake.The state administration is scheduled to present a power-point presentation to the Prime Minister on the widespread damages and devastation caused by the temblor at the Raj Bhawan.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was received at the Libing helipad in Gangtok by Governor BP Singh, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, and senior officials of the state government including the Chief Secretary and DGP.He is also scheduled to discuss relief for the affected at a high-level meeting here later.
