Chennai: State-run schools in Tamil Nadu celebrated Teachers' Day in the traditional way, remembering the “gurus” for their noble work of imparting knowledge and shaping the destiny of future citizens, but gave a miss to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's televised address on the occasion.

However, children studying in CBSE schools in various parts of the state had the privilege of watching the Prime Minister's interaction with students.

Tamil Nadu Government selected 377 teachers for the annual Best Teacher Award from its schools and Education Minister K Veeramani presented the award to 23 of them hailing from Chennai.

Students at all schools greeted their teachers with flowers and held cultural programmes on the day, reports reaching the state headquarters suggested.

The CBSE had issued circulars asking its schools to make arrangements to conduct the Prime Minister's interaction with students and Kendriya Vidyalaya School in Tiruvannamalai was selected for participating in the interaction with Modi through video conference facility.
