JAWAHARLAL NEHRU
Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister was also the first one to represent India at the UNGA. In his first-ever speech at the UN in 1948, Nehru spoke of India's peaceful struggle for Independence. He stressed on the point that the means you get to the end are as important as the end itself. He spoke of the two world wars and said that the world gained nothing out of fighting these wars other than hatred and destruction. Nehru also spoke of the sufferings of people of Asia under imperialism and colonialism. He also drew attention to a problem which had been of vital importance-- racial equality.
