Dussehra celebrations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Dussehra speech on Tuesday urged the people to take 10 pledges in order to see a developed India and called for ending distortions like casteism, regionalism harming harmony in society.
Addressing the people during the Ravan Dahan event in Delhi's Dwarka, PM Modi, "I wish all the countrymen a very happy Navratri and Vijayadashami. The festival symbolises the victory of good over evil."
"Today, we are fortunate to see Lord Ram Temple being constructed on Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya after a long wait. It is a sign of victory of our patience," the Prime Minister said.
With the 10-day Durga Puja festival being marked with Ramlila, Modi noted that a grand temple dedicated to Lord Ram is being built in Ayodhya and said it is everyone's good fortune that they are witness to it after a wait of centuries. The temple will be completed in a few months and it marks the victory of people's patience, he said.
"Bhagawan Shri Ram bas aane hi wale hain (Lord Ram's arrival is imminent)," he said, asserting that prayers at the temple during the next Ramnavmi will spread happiness in the entire world.
"Today, 'Ravan Dahan' shouldn't be about only about burning of an effigy but also about forces which try to divide 'Maa Bharati' in the name of casteism and regionalism," he said.
The Prime Minister asked people to take 10 pledges in order to advance towards a developed India. These are:
- Saving water for future generation
- Motivating people to use digital payments systems
- Being sensitised towards maintaining cleanliness in villages
- Following vocal for local
- Doing quality work, making quality products
- Traveling across our own country first and then world
- Educating farmers about natural farming
- Including millets in our daily diet
- Focusing in personal fitness
- Uplifting socio-economic status of at least one poor family
