With India wanting to know the links of Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Tahawwur Rana in Canada, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday the issue with his visiting counterpart Stephen Harper who promised cooperation in the matter.

The matter relating to Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, came up during the talks in the context of common concerns over terrorism and ways to collaborate to meet the threat.

"I did mention to Prime Minister Stephen Harper the particular case you have mentioned," Singh said when asked whether the issue of Rana figured in his discussions with his Canadian counterpart considering that India wants the LeT operative's links in Canada to be investigated.

"We had a fruitful discussion in expanding areas of cooperation in combating the scourge of terrorism," he said at a joint press conference with Harper after their talks.

Singh declined to discuss the issue further, saying the matter is under investigation.

Responding to the question, Harper said "we discussed the case" and "resolved to cooperate closely in future exchange of information."

He said Canada has worked closely with American counterparts in this matter.

Rana was arrested by FBI in Chicago last month for planning attacks here and India wants his links in Canada to be investigated. PTI
