New Delhi: Former CEO of Star Network Peter Mukherjea was today arrested by CBI in Sheena Bora murder case. Peter Mukerjea is the husband of Indrani Mukerjea, who is an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.
According to available reports Peter was arrested by the officials of CBI under the 120(B) IPC.He will be produced before the court on Friday.
Former media baron Peter Mukherjea was today arrested by the CBI here in connection with the murder of Sheena Bora, daughter of his wife and prime accused Indrani who is already in the custody for the alleged crime.
Sheena was Indrani's daughter from her first marriage.CBI's spokesperson said that Mukherjea's name surfaced
during its probe in the case and “he has been arrested”.
The spokesperson refused to divulge any further details in the case but sources in the probe agency alleged that he had some more insight in the crime which he had not shared withthe Mumbai police.
The CBI, which was handed over the case on September 29 after an apparent turf-war between the ousted Commissioner Rakesh Maria and the new incumbent Ahmed Javed, had questioned Mukherjea for hours before it was decided to place him under arrest, the sources said.
The decision to arrest Peter was taken in view of alleged inconsistencies in his statement before the CBI, the sources said.
Peter's lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said he was surprised at the decision of CBI to place him under arrest. “I will be extremely shocked if the news about his arrest is true,” he said.
“I contacted him through messages and my last contact was well past 7.30 PM when he informed me that he was being questioned by the CBI and that he would contact me later,” he said.
The development came on a day when the CBI filed chargesheet in a Mumbai court in the Sheena Bora murder case.
Earlier in the day CBI had filed a chargesheet in the high profile Sheena Bora murder case in a magistrate court in Mumbai. The main accused in this case are Indrani Mukherjee, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai.
The trio allegedly murdered 24-year-old Sheena Bora in April 2012 and her body was dumped in a forest in the neighbouring Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The chargesheet, running into more than 1,000 pages and containing statements of 150 witnesses, 200 documents and seven statements recorded before magistrate, was submitted before magistrate RV Adone at Esplanade court in South Mumbai.
It names Indrani, Khanna and Rai as accused—who were all arrested in August this year—after Rai allegedly spilled the beans while he was being interrogated in a different case.
The probe into the sensational case, which was personally supervised by the then Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria, was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) by the Maharashtra Government considering its various aspects including the suspected money trail.
