The chardham yatra begins tomorrow with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines in Garhwal Himalayas to be followed by that of Kedarnath on May 4 and Badrinath on May 5.

All preparations are complete for the beginning of the chardham yatra slated for tomorrow, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar, who is out in the field to assess the preparations, said.

All preparations are in place for the yatra to Gangotri, Yamunotri and Badrinath temples but some work remains to be done en route Kedarnath for which senior officials have been sent to Kedar Valley, Kumar said.

The officials have been asked to give an action taken report by May 3, a day before the portals of Kedarnath are opened.

Supplies of ration and kerosene adequate for one month have been sent in advance in Kedarnath to meet any exigencies.

No hotels or dhabas are being run on Kedarnath yatra route, instead a ‘langar' (community kitchen) will be set up by Garhwal Vikas Nigam which has been asked to prepare food for 1000 people on a daily basis.

Besides, the Nigam will also put up refreshment points along the way, he said.
