New Delhi: Pakistani troops carried out unprovoked firing on forward posts of Border Security Force (BSF) in Arnia and RS Pura sectors along Line of Control (LoC) in the wee hours of Monday.
Pakistani troops opened fire at 15 to 17 posts, including Pital and Chavni posts, at around 2 am and lasted till 6 am, an official said.
Pakistani soldiers also fired mortar shells in the area. As per the official sources, one civilian, resident of Pindi village, was injured in the incident.
The BSF jawans retaliated with similar calibre weapons.
While the Indian Army guards the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, the BSF is posted on the international border in the state.
There has been a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in the past two months. 14 cease of firing and ceasefire violation have been reported from Pakistani side in last nine days.
Meanwhile, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and MI (Military Intelligence) have issued alerts that incidents of firing and ceasefire violation will increase in coming days along LoC. As per the IB reports, these attempts by Pakistani rangers and ISI are aimed at pushing terrorists in India.
Officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs said that they are monitoring the situation very closely and a detailed report has been sought on the issue.
Last week, Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed was once again seen roaming near the international border and giving proactive speech and motivating terrorists.
In BSF surveillance equipment, again nine terrorists were seen trying to cross the border in Jammu.
The ceasefire violations come ahead of Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan which is slated for August 25.
On August 8, an agreement to observe peace along the border between the two sides had taken place at the Commandant level flag meeting in RS Pura sector.
