Jammu: The Pakistan Rangers Friday violated the ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing at Indian positions on the international border in Jammu district, police said.
The firing started along the border at 1:00 a.m. that continued till 6:00 a.m. today morning. The firing has stopped but the situation is still tense but under control.
The Pakistan Rangers targeted the Border Security Force (BSF) posts on the international border in R.S. Pura sector in Jammu Friday morning, a senior police officer said.
Mortar shells were used in the firing that started from the Pakistani side at around midnight. Some of the mortars landed in villages causing some damage. "The BSF has retaliated...effectively," a senior police officer said.
"The BSF has retaliated the firing effectively," the officer said.
Villagers in R.S.Pura and Arnia areas have been asked not to move out and switch off their lights during nights to avoid being targeted by the firing.
The Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir is guarded by the army while the BSF guards the international border.
