Jammu: Apprehending that Pakistan might resort to cross-border firing to disrupt polling in Jammu and Kashmir, BSF said it has made elaborate arrangements and security and vigilance has been beefed up-to to foil any cross-border design.

“It is apprehended that Pakistan may resort cross-border firing to disrupt elections (in J&K) and for that we have made elaborate arrangements,” Inspector General of BSF, Jammu Frontier Rakesh Sharma told reporters here today.  With Sharma as chief guest, BSF on its 49th Raising Day organised a blood donation camp at BSF Hospital Jammu, in which 115 officers and other security personnel donated blood.

In the backdrop of the terror attack on November 27-28 in Arnia border belt along the International Border in Jammu district in which 12 people were killed, the BSF IG said, “Intense vigilance and security measures have been put in place along the border.”

“Keeping in view elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the security has been strengthened so that Pakistan does do any mischief,” he said.

Asserting that investigating into the terror attack is being done by the police, the IG said, “There is a militant build-up and training camps across the border in R S Pura and Samba (sub-sectors along the borderline).”

“They (militants) are always waiting for an opportunity to get in...,” Sharma said, “but our endeavour is to keep area dominated and not allow any chance for them.” The IG said it is a well established fact that Pakistani Army and Rangers are fully aiding and abetting terrorists by training them and helping them in infiltration bids.  The Border Security Force (BSF) was raised on December 1, 1965 to guard the International Border.
