Srinagar: Despite remaining below freezing point, night temperatures throughout Jammu and Kashmir improved on Saturday.
"There has been an overall improvement in minimum temperatures across the state because of cloud cover during the night," an official of the local Met department told IANS here.
"Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus two degrees against minus 5.4 yesterday (Friday). Similarly, the minimum temperature recorded in Gulmarg was minus three against minus 4.8 yesterday while it was minus three in Pahalgam today against yesterday's minus 7.6," .
"Leh town recorded minus 13.6 today against yesterday's minus 17.1 degrees Celsius while Kargil's minimum temperature was minus 16.4 which was, however, marginally lower than 16.1 recorded yesterday."
"The minimum in Jammu was 8.8 degrees Celsius today against 6.6 yesterday again showing improvement," he added.
The official said light rain and snowfall is expected in the mountains of the Valley during the next 24 hours while the weather would remain cloudy in the plains during the same period.
