New Delhi: Over five lakh families have applied for receiving food grains under the ambitious Food Security Programme which was launched here last month by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Delhi's Food and Supplies Minister Harun Yusuf said his department was working hard to ensure “effective implementation” of the scheme in the city.
“More than five lakh households covering 25 lakh people have applied for enrolment under the scheme.
On an average, we are receiving more than 50,000 forms daily,” he said.
He said Delhi government will provide benefits under the scheme to 73.5 lakh people in the city out of the total population of 1.68 crore.
In the first phase, the government will distribute food grains to 32 lakh beneficiaries.
“The response towards the scheme is overwhelming. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure effective implementation of the scheme,” he said.
The forms for enrolment under the scheme have been made available at around 250 places across the city.
“We have made filling up and submission of application forms hassle-free as only Aadhar card or Aadhar enrollment slip of the each member of the households need to be attached along with the forms.
“The Department has been making it clear repeatedly that there is no need of any affidavit, attestation form, NOC of landlord, rent agreement or residence proof,” he said.
He said strict vigil is being maintained around the ration offices against elements who are trying to take money from people in the name of filling up of the forms, preparation of affidavits and selling of forms.
“The department has lodged two FIRs- one in Vikaspuri and other one in Tuglakabad against people found indulging in such malpractices,” said Yusuf.
All BPL families, Above Poverty Line (APL) card holders and Jhughi Ration Card (JRC) holders and beneficiaries under Antodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) are being included in the first phase.
The city government has also decided to include homeless people, daily wage earners, rag-pickers, people living in resettlement colonies and slum clusters in the first phase of implementation of the scheme.
