Jammu, Apr 1: A whopping three lakh pilgrims from various parts of the country and outside thronged the cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi during the nine-day Navratra festivals, shrine board officials have said.
On an average, over 30,000 enthusiastic devotees paid obeisance at the cave shrine every day during the Navaratras, braving a tough terrain by trekking the 13-kilometre-long serpentine road.
Situated in Trikuta hills of Reasi district of the state, the cave shrine achieved a historic milestone by registering a record number of over one crore pilgrims who visited there in 2011.
This was 12.5 lakh more than the number of 87,49,326 pilgrims who visited the shrine in 2010. This, in turn, was over 5,14,430 lakh more than 2009's figures of 82,34,896 and over 20 lakh more than total numbers of 67,92,223 in 2008.
