New Delhi, Feb 1: Nearly 26,500 children in municipal primary schools of the national capital have been found anaemic during surveys conducted by the Municipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) in association with prominent city hospitals.
As part of its Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojna, medical teams of the civic body carried out hemoglobin tests among students of MCD schools in collaboration with city hospitals.
Some 26,411 children were examined of which 70% were found anemic, 12, 772 students were suffering from various other disease and 5,527 were referred for further tests.
MCD Public Health Committee Chairman V K Monga said iron and folic acid tablets have been given to all the children.
One million tablets have been distributed so far, Monga said adding, the parents of these children were also advised to ensure that children take the medicines regularly and appropriate diet was provided to them.
