New Delhi: More than 1,300 infants have died in the Kalawati Saran Children Hospital here during the last one year, according to an RTI query.


In one year, from January 2013-2014, 1,345 infants have died due to diseases like Diarrhea, Tuberculosis, Tetanus, and Encephalitis.

Out of 1,345, 92 lost their lives in January last year, 87 in February, 78 in March, 87 in April, 115 in May, 77 in June, 85 in July, 159 in August, 113 in September, 136 in October, 154 in November, and 67 in December.

75 children died in January this year.

The query also said that similarly more than three infants have been dying in the government-run hospital daily.

According to the query, the department of pediatrics and nanotechnology in the hospital suffer from paucity of ventilators with only two out of five of them working in the pediatrics and and four out of six in the latter.

Various common causes for deaths in Kalawati Hospital are Diarrhea, Tuberculosis, Tetanus, Encephalitis, Anemia, Malnutrition, Pneumonia, and Neonatal Sepsis.

It is also known that out of the total number of children admitted in the hospital, many suffer from acute bronchitis and bronchitis.
