Kolkata: The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, located on board a DC-10 jet aircraft, was opened here today for providing free medical treatment to local eye patients till September 22.
The facility was inaugurated at the airport here by West Bengal Minister of State for Health Chandrima Bhattyacharya.
ORBIS volunteer pilots fly the plane to developing countries for free eye treatment and teach urgently needed sight-saving skills, a hospital spokesman said.
The private flying hospital is a wing of ‘Orbis International' which works for ‘Saving Sight Worldwide' since its foundation in 1982, having its headquarter in New York.
