New Delhi, Mar 25 : Opposition today demanded resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and sought action against Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna stating that they
have been indicted by the Shunglu Committee that went into the irregularities in the Commonwealth Games. The issue was raised in both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha by BJP members who also shouted slogans seeking action against those indicted by the panel set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Raising the matter in the Lok Sabha, senior BJP leader LK Advani said there have been media reports that the Shunglu Committee had submitted its report to the government.
The government should table the report in Parliament today itself and if possible, have a discussion on it, he said.
He said at the beginning of the session three issues related to corruption were raised -- 2G spectrum allocation, conduct of Commonwealth Games and the Adarsh Housing scam.
Since the talk of corruption began with the conduct of Commonwealth Games, the Shunglu Committee report should be tabled in Parliament without delay, he said.
In the Rajya Sabha, pressure was mounted jointly by BJP,BJD and JD-U on the government.
The matter was raised by BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu who insisted that the government should respond immediately and assure the House that action would be taken.
Demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister and action against the LG and the DDA officials, the BJP members shouted slogans. As they were about to troop into the well, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
When the House reassembled, Naidu again raised the issue saying the Commonwealth was converted into "individual wealth."
In an identical response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal said, "The government will not be found wanting and whatever action is required, will be taken, if necessary."
He said the government would require some time to study the report of the committee which was set up through an Executive Order."I will convey to the government through the minister concerned and convey the feelings of the House," Bansal said.
Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj expressed dissatisfaction over Bansal's response saying it was the government's stock reply to the opposition on every matter.
Action, if required, will be taken is the government's reply to every demand of the Opposition, she said before leading the BJP walkout in the Lok Sabha.
Meanwhile, several BJP workers led by senior party leader Venkaiah Naidu today courted arrest demanding resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and action against Lieutenant-Governor Tejinder Khanna who have been reportedly indicted by the Shunglu Committee.
"This Delhi government is corrupt and it is proved in the Shunglu report. We demand resignation from the Chief Minister and action against all those ministers and officials indicted in the report," Naidu told reporters before courting arrest near Delhi Assembly.
He also demanded "strict action" against Khanna and flayed both Centre and the state government for "shielding" those involved in the scam.
"The Prime Minister had promised that he will take quick action against those who gulped crores of rupees in CWG preparations. But in Lok Sabha they are not tabling the report and the Minister (Pawan Kumar Bansal) says the government is going through the report. We want to know for how long they will study it?" he asked. PTI
