Detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sunday night, Hafeez Mollah was arrested Monday and is being presented before a court, DIG (Operations), CID Dilip Adak said.

Investigating agencies are suspecting involvement of groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami in the explosion that took place at a house in Burdwan district's Khagragarh area, killing Shakil Ahmed and Sovan Mandal and injuring Hasan Saheb.

Mollah is the third person to be arrested in this connection. Policeon  Sunday secured custody of Rajira Bibi, wife of Ahmed, and Amina Bibi, wife of Saheb.

Meanwhile, police conducted search operations in Nadia and Murshidabad districts from where the two women are.

Besides the CID, a composite task force comprising officers from various state investigating agencies have been constituted to probe the incident for which the Mamata Banerjee-led government has been receiving flak from the opposition.

Both the Left Front and the BJP have alleged that people associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress were involved and also accused police of destroying crucial evidence and covering up the probe.

The charges were rubbished by the Trinamool as well as the state government.
