Bhopal, May 2: One person was killed and three others were seriously injured when a bear attacked them at a village near here, police said.
Golgaon village resident Rai Singh Tomar (22) was killed when the bear attacked him last evening.
Tomar's nephew and two other villagers also sustained serious injuries in a bid to save him.
The villagers alleged that the bear had also killed a cattle two days back and they had informed forest officials about the animal roaming around in the Samardha range of Bhopal forest zone, but no action was taken.
Meanwhile, Samardha range SDO S P Jain said a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh would be given to the deceased's family and the injured would be provided free treatment by the department.
A rescue operation will be started today to catch the bear, he added.
