Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated a Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and laid foundation of a multi-tier parking project in Jammu today.
The 27 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) has been set up at Baghwati Nagar area here, and is designed to cater to the needs of the projected population of the year 2036 in the area, an official spokesman said.
The project, besides the STP comprises a main trunk sewer of 26.53 km, lateral sewer lines of 65.5 km, he said. Stating that people's demand has been fulfilled by the completion of the STP, Omar said the sewerage system in Jammu has been divided into four zones to cater to the needs and manage the disposal of sewerage in a scientific manner.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid foundation of multi-tier parking project at the General Bus Stand here. The project at a cost of Rs 131 crore will be developed over an area of 37.5 kanals out of the 55.37 kanals available at the Bus Stand. The built-up area will be 60,365 sq mts and is expected to be completed in two years.
Omar said the government was looking for a major multi-tier car parking complex in Jammu to decongest the area and help smooth movement of vehicles and the proposed project will prove highly beneficial in this regard.
